Tyre leak could be a painful phenomenon at times. It does not only cost you in terms of repair but also the downtime. And, if that downtime occurs in the middle of the highway, it’s the worst situation leaving you stranded for hours. No matter how good your tyres are, they are prone to leakage resulting from puncture or low air pressure. Here in this article, we will learn how to find a leak in a tyre using different techniques.

The first method is the easiest and trouble free. You just have to inflate your tyres fully (if you are lucky enough not to be very far away from the repair centre) and visually inspect the cuts and holes. If you are unable to locate the cuts, try hearing the hissing sound from the tyre. It will help you locate the exact position of the leak. You can also hover your hand over the tyre to feel the air coming from it.
Method 2: Water and Soap Mixture

Don’t panic if you are not able to find the leakage tyre using the above method, you have more options. Now spray soapy water over the tyre in order to see the bubbles. If you find the bubbles sprouting from it, you have found the leakage, if not, move on to the next method.
Method 3: Finding the leak by submerging tyre into water

If you are not aware of the jacking points and how to jack up the car, service manual might be very helpful at this critical juncture. Once you have removed the wheel, submerge the tyre in a large tub filled with water and watch for air bubbles.
Besides this, tyre valve leaking can also be one of the reasons for your car’s tyre deflation. Alongside, failed bead and cracked metal could be some of the causes behind the tyre leaking air, though it is very rare. If you are unable to fix the leakage yourself, ask for some professional help. Here, a temporary jugaad can also work but if you are close enough to a repair shop, take your car there without any delay.
