Bridgestone B290 Tyre Overview
The Japanese tyre giant Bridgestone Tyres has been ruling the Indian tyre industry for more than 20 years. In the past two decades, the tyre maker has introduced a wide range of tyres in the domestic tyre market and has given a tough competition to the likes of MRF, CEAT, Apollo, Michelin and Goodyear. Although Bridgestone’s portfolio houses different products for different passenger car segments, but the B290 has turned out to be the flagship tyre for the tyre maker due to its extensive fitment possibilities. Bridgestone B290 is available for cars ranging from Tata Nano to Audi A4 in 25 popular tyre sizes; fits in 12 to 16 inches wheels.
Termed as the successor of Bridgestone B250 tyre, the B290 is made to tackle the challenging road conditions. It comes with the modest features and capabilities such as Flat contact patch design for better handling, 3D Tread grooves for better grip, 5 different sized tread blocks to reduce noise, 2 ply sidewall construction, 10 percent better performance in the wet and dry conditions than the elder sibling B250 and much more.
Bridgestone B290 Tyre Compound
Bridgestone B290 tyre shares the MY-02 tyre styling and gets flexible rubber compound that doesn’t let it loose control on wet and dry conditions. There is an ultimate combination of flexibility and hardness on the outer surface. The base outside is flexible, however, the tread blocks are kept hard enough to offer superior handling. Besides, the B290 tyre gets a continuous nylon wrap under its skin that provides a higher level of uniformity and helps it to hold its original shape and deliver enhanced performance on roads.
Bridgestone B290 Tyre Construction Type
Bridgestone B290 gets a 2-ply sidewall construction along with a square profile, basically, a Flat Contact Patch (FCP) to the traditional rounded outer sidewall. Unlike the standard tyres, the Flat Contact Patch allows a larger tread area to come in contact with the road. Added to this, the ultra-efficient tread design of Bridgestone B290 tyre gets rows of low and high angle winding grooves that disperse more water through the tread channels. Furthermore, this tyre also has other remarkable benefits such as minimised shoulder wear and rarer tyre deformations.
Bridgestone B290 Tyre Performance
As far as the performance under practical conditions is concerned, the B290 wouldn’t disappoint at all. It is a great performer in wet and dry conditions and has superior handling and braking characteristics. Low noise levels while driving is another great advantage of Bridgestone B290 tyre. To reduce the tyre noise, Bridgestone has carved five different-sized tread blocks on the tyre profile. Added to this, from the point of safety and comfort too, the B290 is a great choice; credits flexible construction.
Bridgestone B290 Tyre Available Sizes
Bridgestone B290 is available in the following 25 different sizes for 12 to 16 inches wheels:
Bridgestone B290 Tyre Price
Bridgestone B290 is one of the most reasonable products in Bridgestone’s portfolio. The company has tried to keep the price very much at par with the rival products from domestic brands like Apollo, CEAT and JK Tyre. At present, the B290 is available in the price range of Rs. 2,200 to Rs. 8,000 for various sizes.
Bridgestone B290 Tyre Fuel Efficiency Factor
The state-of-the-art, Bridgestone B290 is an exemplary product from Bridgestone. The cutting-edge Japanese engineering enables this tyre to generate better traction on roads and reduce the rolling resistance thereby cutting the fuel consumption by a huge margin. For the mileage conscious Indian car owners, the B290 is a right fit.
Bridgestone B290 Warranty
Bridgestone B290 comes with a 3 years standard warranty. This warranty is applicable from the date purchase to either up to 3 years or till the exposure of tread wear indicators, whichever is earlier irrespective of kilometres covered.
Bridgestone B290 Tyre Speed Rating
Bridgestone B290 gets speed rating “T” which means that this tyre can bear sprint up to 190 km/h. For the entry level or mid-segment cars, touching 190 km/h is rarely a case, therefore this tyre is a good choice to go with. However, for the high-end cars like Audi A4, Volkswagen Jetta, BMW 1 Series etc. installing this tyre might turn out to be a speed barrier as these vehicles can clock over 190 km/h on the highways. The fact is that the B290 becomes unsafe over 190 km/h and restricts the speed potential of the cars with larger mills.
Bridgestone B290 Competitors
Bridgestone B290 is fitted in multiple car segments and therefore, it competes with a high number of rivals in the Indian tyre market. To mention, the B290 competitors are CEAT Milaze, JK Ultima NXT, Jk Tornado, JK UX Royale, Apollo Amazer 3G, Apollo Alnac, MRF ZEC, MRF ZVTS, MRF ZVT, Goodyear GP S2, Goodyear Ducaro Hi-Miler, the siblings Bridgestone B250, Bridgestone Turanza, Bridgestone Ecopia & Bridgestone S322, Yokohama Earth 1, Michelin XM2, Michelin Primacy, Continental CONTI MAX CONTACT MC5 and Pirelli P7.

Verdict
Price-wise, Bridgestone B290 is quite a reasonable tyre and it also secures high numbers for its impeccable performance under practical conditions. Both on wet and dry roads, it runs glued to the surface and disperses the water effectively through the five different sized tread blocks thereby ensuring more traction. It also deserves appreciation for its premium durability standards. Furthermore, from the point fuel efficiency too, the B290 is a value for money fitment option for cars. The only drawback is its compatibility with the premium cars as there are the likes of Michelin Primacy, Pirelli P7, Continental CONTI MC5 and Goodyear Eagle that have better speed rating.
Hello..T.M…team…
I own Maruti Zen estilo vxi 2009 model.
Kindly request you to suggest best tyre for my vehicle.
My usage of vehicle is occassional and off the roads like city having very bad roads.
My existing MRF zvts got cut in very short span after earlier replacement.
OEM had fitted with JK Tornado but it feels hard.
Long distance drive very occassional.
So looking for durable, comfort , not so hard, not so soft considering road conditions in my area etc., Not so very costly, not very cheap etc. Plz Suggest.
What is Unconditional Warranty ? And does it really helps in Claim. Or should go for regular warranty.
So considering all above plz suggest not more than 2-3 brands n variants to avoid further confusion and dillema.
Hope you understand my concern.
I also have made my few choices which I will share u after your reply.
Hello Friends, I am using Bridgestone B290 tyre for my Wagonr from last 14 months and covered around 8000 km. Recently I observed few cracks developed on side wall of tyre and its increasing day bay day. Those cracks are about 1 -3 cm in length and 1 mm deep. When I contacted company authorised person for warranty, he said its natural wear and tear, n because of UV sunlight or low running, tyre rubber is soft, its normal and can’t be avoided, ( what a f**K, how it’s possible for only single tyre when other two tyre are of same brand ) and rejected from warranty.
But same time I’m still using my 5 year old Apollo tyre in one of 4 wheel ( kept one new Bridgestone tyre as Stepney) and its side wall is still intact. Not a small crack yet after 55k km. so I strongly suggest not buy/use any Bridgestone tyre.
Bridgestone tyres are made up of very soft, low quality material and not good for Indian weather.
So please avoid using Bridgestone tyre.
well said true ……my car also same…
I have been running my Ertiga from 2020 on Bridgestone 185/65/15R covering 52000 kms .
till today no cracks no abnormal wear
Bridgestone 290 tyre or 250 Tyre which is better
Dear Binoy
The performance parameters such as Handling, Fuel Saving, Wet Grip & Durability is better in Bridgestone B290 when compared to Bridgestone B250.

Dear Pradip
Maruti Suzuki Alto 800 (2013 model) comes with tyre size 145/80R12. For overall excellent performance, you can buy Bridgestone B290 or Michelin Energy XM2.

Hi Team, Currently I am using Turanza 185/65/R15… but now it is not available. I have to replace two tyres, which one should i go along with turanza? Should I buy ecopia or B250 or B290? Please suggest.
Hi,
You can go ahead with B290.
Thanks
Don’t buy Bridgestone, it’s a hopeless product and the company does not respond to customers.
I have a horrible experience for a warranty claim , the company was asking customers share for a warranty replacement. They termed it as unconditional warranty and customers have to pay for manufacturing defect of the company as they decided to buy Bridgestone and use them till failure within warranty.
Ref this link if you don’t believe
My experience with Bridgestone 290, it’s dealer & the company was very bad.
Within first 4 kms of running the tyre was torned on the outer round side of tyre.
Horrible experience even after buying such expensive tyres.
The unconditional warranty does not have any meaning. After 4 kms of running, for replacing the tyre, dealer took additional money from me. Bridgestone is keeping silent about this. Even after writing to its top management, there was no positive response which shows that the additional money is earned under the name of warranty.
I have honda city 2013. Looking at 175/65R15. Is B290 better than yokohama bluearth GT AE51
Hi, I bought bridgestone trye i,e B290 165/70 r14, but on tyres i see Orange, green & white strip, what does it indicate?, i am worried either tires are genuine or not?, plz reply. by the by how to validate whether bridgestone tyre are original or duplicate
Hello Ravi,
those strips are only for manufacturer’s knowledge. You can ignore those unless you have purchased the tyres from a illicit or suspectful source. In that case, do take them to your nearest garage to get them inspected.
Thanks
