Country’s prominent tyre maker, Apollo Tyres is planning to launch two separate new brands namely Vredestein and Regal for the passenger vehicle and commercial vehicle segment respectively. The move will be a part of its strategic philosophy of adopting a dual brand approach in India. To strengthen its position in the tyre arena, the Gurugram-headquartered firm is also determined to double its Truck and Bus Radials (TBRs) capacity from present 6000 units per day to 12000 units per day over subsequent 24 months at its Chennai manufacturing facility.
Vredestein is company’s Netherlands-based European subsidiary acquired from Russia’s insolvent largeNV. And on the other hand, Regal is its South African subsidiary. Mr. Satish Sharma, President, Asia Pacific, Middle East and Africa (APMEA), Apollo Tyres, stated that company under the Apollo brand currently holds 17 percent market share in the passenger vehicle segment and will soon launch the Vredestein premium radials for executive saloon segment and luxury vehicles in the country. The tyre firm aims to take the top position in the passenger vehicle segment by launching the European brand in India.
At the moment, homegrown MRF Tyres and Japanese tyre major Bridgestone dominate the passenger vehicle tyre segment in the country. In the hot TBR segment Apollo Tyres seeks to increase its current market share from existing 27 percent to 35 percent.
