Recently Michelin has launched a tyre – Michelin X Multi Energy that places a priority on fuel saving for vehicles. It is for the first time that Michelin has launched a tyre dedicated to fuel saving that outside its regular league of normal long-haul tyre sector.
The arrival of X Multi Energy tyre will be followed by the product replacement strategy for the X MultiWay 3D regional tyre that was launched last year. It was already indicated last year that the new tyre while matching its predecessor’s fuel efficiency is also capable of delivering about 20% more mileage. The company has claimed that during tests, they found that the X Multi Energy showed fuel savings of about 1.2 litres per 100 kms. The calculations were based VECTO calculation method.
The European Commission has been on a road to cut on the CO2 emissions in member countries and for that they have developed VECTO tool to calculate the fuel consumption a0nd CO2 emissions from trucks and other such vehicles.
According to Chris Smith, Sales Director B2B for Michelin in the UK, with the launch of Michelin X Multi Energy tyre, the operators will be benefited. As majority of tender documents and contracts in the region are demanding a low CO2 emission, this makes Michelin’s new tyre the perfect solution for them.
The technologies that are used in developing this new tyre are a combination of–Powercoil, Infinicoil and Regenion. Michelin X Multi Energy is fully adapted by all the major truck OEMs and is now available on the replacement market as a 315/70 R 22.5 fitment in both drive axle patterns and all round fitment.
