If you’re one of the many who love to throttle their ‘iron horses’ then most probably you already know about the World Motorcycle Day. This Christmas of the bikers all over the world is celebrated on every June 21st. In Bangalore, the Mecca of Indian bikers, this event was organised by Association of Biking Community (ABC Bangalore). “WMD – KARNATAKA,” the theme this year was certainly bigger and better than the previous ones.
The organizers invited biking clubs from all over Karnataka to celebrate this special occasion in a truly bikers way. The event was meant for all the bike lovers and this time it was thrilling to have them not only arrived from Bangalore but also the other all parts of Karnataka.
Various clubs and bikers were part of the festival, amounting to more than 75 clubs and 2800 bikers in this event. The popular biking clubs which participated in this celebration were — Riders of Tumakuru, DOCB, Riders of Bangalore, Biking It To Create Happiness, Bajaj Avenger Club – Bengaluru, My Biker Family, Battalion Bikers: Bengaluru, The Lycans – Bengaluru, B I R C – Biker Inside Riding Club – Bangalore, Rx Owners Club – Bengaluru, Bangalore Malayali Riders, BIKING BUDDIES, Bangalore Bullet Club, Team Bengaluru Biker Buddha’s, Gixxer Club Bengaluru, Bangalore Bong Bikers, Bull Tuskers Bengaluru. The event was also used to spread awareness about safety.
For grouping and briefing purposes the riders started gathering in the early morning of June 21st from 3:30 am to 4:25 am at METRO – Cash & Carry (Ward No. 9, Survey No. 26/3, Industrial Suburbs, A Block, Subramanyanagar, 2 State, Rajajinagar, Bengaluru). The Honorable Union Minister Sadananda Gowda Flagged off the ride towards the famous Dharmashi Resort. This popular resort was the main event location and the final destination for the riders. It was located on Kunigal Road, National Highway 48. The total riding distance to reach the event venue was 60 kilometres.
The sponsors set up a number of stalls on Dharmashi resort. Tyremarket.com, Race Dynamics, Michelin tyres, Orion gears, Monster energy drink, Sowparnika, Tryka Gear etc. all had their individual booths. Tyremarket.com with its attractive display of superbike tyres, grab the attention of bikers and the media alike. Suzuki company won over the bikers as they were the only company that provided test rides on their latest Gixxer 150cc and 250cc models. Moreover, they also exhibited the stunning V-Strom 650cc and GSX-R 750cc Models.
There were other activities which ensured that the event was not a limited one. A discussion panel was arranged and experienced bikers were encouraged to share their own achievements in various riding segments like rally, endurance riding, closed track racing etc. There were also some entertaining options for the bikers.
A rock band performance was arranged to entertain the crowd of bikers. The thrill-seekers were also entertained with solo beatboxing. A blindfolded pianist showcased his talent and astonished the audience by playing the piano while sitting in a backward position. An Indie Karaoke performance also entertained the gathering. It was shortly followed up by the award ceremony. Riders of Bangalore(ROB) got the trophy for the most number of participants in this event. Finally, all the volunteers and the organizers were thanked for making this event a grand success and it all ended on a note of a jubilant celebration.
