In Mumbai, a glamorous function was held recently where the Indian Car Of The Year 2017 was announced. Dr. Raghupati Singhania, Vice-Chairman and Managing Director of JK Tyre & Industries Ltd handed over the Indian Car of the Year trophy to Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza while the TVS Apache RTR 2004V has been chosen as the winner of the Motorcycle of the Year award.

In the cars category, the top three final contenders were Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, Toyota Innova Crysta and Hyundai Tucson. The runner-up award was bagged by the Tucson and Innova Crysta got the third position.

In the motorcycle category, the final fight was between the TVS Apache RTR 2004V, Royal Enfield Himalayan and Kawasaki Versys 650 ABS. The new Apache took the first prize, with the Kawasaki and Royal Enfield coming second and third respectively.

Maruti Suzuki’s Vitara Brezza finally broke the dominance of Hyundai over the ICOTY awards as the Korean carmaker had won it consecutively for three years in a row in 2014, 2015 and 2016. The TVS Apache RTR 2004V took away the IMOTY crown from the Yamaha YZF-R3, the winner of the 2016 award.

To celebrate this important occasion, well-known rock artist Gary Lawyer gave a splendid performance of ‘Motoring Music’ specially curated for this award ceremony night. This was the 12th edition of the ceremony which has emerged as the most credible and coveted auto award and is now considered the ‘Oscar’ of the Indian automotive industry.

The eligible cars are judged on various parameters such as price, fuel efficiency, styling, comfort, features, performance, technical innovation and above all suitability for Indian consumers and driving conditions. JK Tyre has been sponsoring the award ceremony of the ICOTY ever since its inception.
