The German global tyre manufacturer Continental AG have chosen Rayong in Thailand as their new site for manufacturing passenger and light truck tyres. The project will create about 900 jobs. The total investment will be 250 million euros. After seeing many sites the Rayong site is finalised and will be used for manufacturing of light trucks and passenger tyres.
The process will start by 2019 and is expected to make 4 million tyres per annum by the year 2022. This plant is a part of Continental’s “Vision 2025”. That aims at expanding and balancing company’s global presence to serve its customers better. Philipp von Hirschheydt, head of business unit replacement for PLT in Asia-Pacific, was of the view that the establishment of a new tyre manufacturing facility in Thailand will enhance the Continental’s presence in Thai market as well as in the neighbouring regions.
According to Continental, the Thai government has been very cooperative in the selection of the site and the company is looking forward for a long-term relationship with the country. Since the launch of its “Vision 2025”, the company has invested more than 3 billion euros in its expansion and research and development activities.
Continental is among the world’s top 5 tyre manufacturers and has produced more than 150 million tyres last year alone.
