Apollo Tyres has recently inaugurated its new global R&D centre for its Asia division on the outskirts of India’s southern metro city, Chennai. This R&D would focus on the research and development needs for all its product segments and is now tyre maker’s second global R&D setup after the Netherlands’ R&D centre established in the year 2013.
Apart from the research projects, these two global R&D centres of Apollo Tyres will also fulfil the development requirements of the respective regions. Apollo Tyres Netherlands global R&D centre is based out of Enschede with the team size of more than 150 people. This R&D centre services the European and American regions. On the other hand, the newly inaugurated R&D centre has total employee strength of 140 people and services the product development requirements for the whole Asia-Pacific, Middle East & African regions.
On the occasion of the inaugural ceremony of the Chennai global R&D centre, Onkar Kanwar, Chairman, Apollo Tyres Ltd. stated that the company has been a consistent leader in terms of launching exclusive products over the past four decades. He also highlighted that the global R&D centre in Chennai will enable the company to accelerate its R&D vision for India as well as other targeted regions. The official also denoted that with this initiative, the company also aligns with PM Narendra Modi’s vision for Brand India.
In addition to the two global R&D centres, Apollo Tyres also has its two satellite R&D centres in Germany and Bengaluru. The Bengaluru based R&D centre is working to integrate electronics into tyre technology, whereas the another R&D satellite based out of Frankfurt, Germany is engrossing the German OE customers for both Vredestein and Apollo brands.
