MRF Tyres, India’s leading tyre maker, stated that in order to produce more efficient tyres they are looking at the new technologies and new generation materials.
KM Mammen, Chairman & Managing Director of MRF Tyres, stated that they are doing their best to make fuel-efficient tyres. They are also working on the rolling resistance which has gained importance in the context of new emission standards as well as on using nanotechnology for developing their products.
Already working on low rolling resistance tyres for some segments, the company has started working on various projects for developing such tyres which will be more fuel-efficient and will emit less carbon dioxide. MRF Tyres is also working on the possibility of using Nano technology and other advanced materials on developing raw materials. They are trying to use different compounds and one of the rolling resistance compound that they are attempting is sand.
Noting that there was slow down in some categories of automobile segment, Mammen expressed that things are likely to get stabilised within the next two quarters. He also said that the company will go ahead with its Gujarat expansion and the capex plans. The concern, he said, is the price rise in the raw materials market that would impact the company’s margins. He was attending an event to mark 25 years of the tie-up between MRF Pace Foundation and Cricket Australia earlier this week.
