The Maruti Suzuki Desert Storm Rally is here again with its latest edition to give the motorsport enthusiasts their desired dose of extreme thrill and extreme adventure under extreme conditions of Thar Desert. Organised by one of the most celebrated motorsport club, Northern Motorsport, the rally will be flagged off from Delhi on the 29th January 2017, and will finally conclude with the prize distribution at the Jodhpur city on the 4th February 2017. Moreover, a day prior to the flag-off i.e. on the 28th January 2017 the documentation and scrutiny of the participants alongside the stickering of the vehicles will take place.
Known to be one of the toughest and most prominent rallies, this time around the 2017 Maruti Suzuki Desert Storm Rally will also see Tyremarket.com racers Arjun and Jathin participating in the grand event. The participants will navigate through the barren sandy stretch of ‘Desert State of Rajasthan’ consisting of sand traps and landmarks. The rally is here to test the endurance and grit levels of man and machine to extreme edge.
India’s leading tyre portal, Tyremarket.com’s team of two, Arjun and Jathin, who have got many famous titles under their kitty, have in all jointly participated in 30 rallies. Here Arjun has individually contested in as many as 48 rallies overall. Last year in the Dakshin Dare rally, among the 50 racers they earned the 7th overall ranking and stood 3rd in the Car Pro Expert category race. And lately, for Tyremarket.com, the duo had participated in the CEAT Sprint Series Rally 2017, where despite the puncture in the car tyre they managed to finish the race.
The Desert Storm Rally 2017 comprises of three categories namely SR-Xtreme, SR-Ndure and SR-Xplore. The Tyremarket team (Arjun & Jathin) will compete in the Xplore category. As per the rule in this category, only the two-wheel drive cars are permissible. The cars will pass through the route containing dirt terrains, mud and gravel driving. This is a TSD (Time- Speed- Distance) rally, wherein a Road book is handed over to the Driver and Navigator that contains all the instructions on distances and directions. Moreover, a Speed Chart is also provided to ensure ideal speed and time on which they should move on. On the other hand, the Navigator has a crucial role, as he/she works out with the ideal time required to arrive at every point as per the designated speed.
Both Arjun and Jathin are professional rally drivers and have also contested at the 6th Southlake TSD Rally 2016 wherein they stood 4th overall and 2nd in Pro Stock category. The pair has not missed even a single rally in the southern subcontinent which itself reflects the volume of passion and devotion they carry in their hearts towards the motorsport.
On an individual level, Arjun participated in the famous Indian National TSD Rally Championship, representing the North zone, which is organised by the Thar Motorsports also known as BMW rally of Jaipur. In this event, Arjun bagged the Winner Title for the North zone.
