Everyone wants to own and drive a car hassle free, but at times it can also attract a lot of unwanted trouble for you. You may end up been cheated on the roads as well as other places by conmen. So in this article, we will make you aware of the common road scams in cities that happen in our country. Few fraudulent activities for which you have to look out are:

1. Fake Valet Parking Scam –

This is the easiest way to get away with your car and your other valuables. Many have no idea that the hotels they are entering into really do provide valet parking or not. The thieves pretend to be valet and once you give them the keys they might flee away with your car or even steal all your valuables. So next time you give away your keys to the valet, remember to ask for the credentials from the hotel owner or confirm it while making the reservation.

2. Car Fire Scam –

In this scam, a gang of 4-5 thieves, stand up at a distance from each other. They look for an easy victim and once they get him, they play their cards cleverly. It starts with one thief (in the guise of a pedestrian), flanking down the driver that there is a fire in his car. If the owner ignores it once, another thief, standing at a distance, repeats the same. This goes till thieves make sure that the driver gets panicked. Once the driver stops the car for an inspection, here comes the trouble. One thief will act like as he is a mechanic and will do the help and once you get distracted in inspecting the car with him others will flee away with the valuables.

3. Car Puncture Scam –

This is the most common scam. In this, the thieves act like as good Samaritans and will tell you that you have a punctured tyre. Once you believe them and get out of the car, their game starts as a couple of them will come and take away your valuables. To be on safer side, never believe these words. Even if there is a real puncture, judge it by the way your steering is behaving. For repairing the puncture, first park your car where there is normal traffic and the area is well lit. Then call up the roadside assistance guys and wait for their arrival. Make sure to tell your near and dear ones about the problem and hold up the place.

4. Parking Attendant Scam –

This scam is of low value, but nonetheless worth mentioning. This happens where you have no idea about how much does one charge for a full day parking or hourly parking. The ticket attendant there sometimes tears away the slip so perfectly that it looks like the amount charged for a full day is actually the amount to be charged normally on an hourly basis. If you suspect that the charges are on higher side, make sure to ask for the untorn slip so that you may get an idea of real parking charges.

Also, another way this scam happens is that you end up paying money where you were not supposed to as conmen charge you for parking where there is free parking. Before you give the parking charges, make sure you ask if they are the licensed one or not and ask for the license. But make sure not to entangle with them verbally.

5. Bump And Steal Scam –

The favourite and evergreen method of thieves. This happens usually on a busy road or at a traffic signal. Here thieves pick the driver who is riding solo and eyes his laptop, mobile, wallet or other valuables.

The technique of the thieves is that, first, they will knowingly bump into your car in a slow moving traffic. Then they will come out and argue with you and instigate you to come out of the car. Once you are out the other person of the gang will make his way through the passenger window and will take away all your belongings.

6. Fake Address Scam –

This usually takes place when you are stuck in traffic signals or in the market waiting for someone. The decent looking thief in a vehicle with an accomplice comes knocking on your window asking for an address, which is a fake. When you are distracted telling him an address, his partner will get away with your items.

As you have learned about all the common road scams now, we expect you can keep a watch on what is happening around you when you are in anyone of the above-mentioned situations.
