As the winter is at its height, team Tyremarket.com thought of sharing a few simple and worthy tips for your vehicle. There’s no doubt that in winters most of us face problem in starting our vehicles in morning. So, why it happens and what are the other issues that we can face in winters. Let’s see how to tackle them in few simple steps.

1) Keep Track of Rubber

It’s very natural to have lots of dew during long winter nights. And if you are parking underneath the open sky or under a tree then you will get your vehicle covered with those tiny droplets every next morning. To make sure that they don’t get inside the car or any of its vital parts you must check those rubber beadings of car’s windows and doors. These rubber beadings can get brittle and crack in the winter season so you need to check them on a regular basis. You can also lube them for winters. There are a number of products available in the market to care for rubber beadings.

2) Keep Checking Tyres

As we always focus on our advisory articles, tyres are something that must never be overlooked. We understand how difficult it is to check all the things of your car during those cold mornings. But you should make sure that there are no cracks in the tyres, they have sufficient tread left and their sidewalls are in good condition. If your tyres have any of the mentioned issues then better change them as soon as possible. Because in winters roads are slippery and along with fog will make life worse for you, if you have badly shaped tyres.

TIP: If you are in the states of Northeast India or Himalayan Region, then the best thing is to go for “winter tyres” or “all-season tyres”.

3) Take a Break to Check the Brakes

It is a fact that in winters the braking distance often increases because of slippery and wet road conditions. And therefore, your vehicle brakes should be in perfect condition. See that the brake pads are not worn out and the braking ability is optimum. If no, then go for a mechanic.

4) Give Your Car Time

Car idling is something that is required in winters for a car to start. We know you are in a hurry but giving couple of minutes to your car won’t harm. It will actually allow the oil to get loose (as it thickens due to cold temperatures). Think of it as a warm up before a hectic day.

5) Look for Wipers’ Health

In fog and dew, wipers will help you drive safely. So you must check their blades. If they are not in a good shape then go for a blade change. Never compromise on this aspect of winter preparations. You never know when it gets too dark and misty.

6) Keep Heating System Ready

India is basically a warm and humid country. Barring few months most of the year we never use heating systems of our vehicles. So as the winter approaches check that your heating system is working well or not. Get it repaired, in case it has problems. You will require heater every now and then.

TIP: Using heater in “Recirculating Mode” for more than 20 minutes can cause you or your passengers a slight dizziness. Therefore, it is recommended to use the heater on intervals and that too not for a long period of time.

7) Go For Service at The Onset of The Season

  • I like the recommendation to always check your tires before driving in the winter. It makes sense that tire tread is always important, but even more so in the snow and rain. I’ll have to look into having the alignment services to make sure they don’t wear quickly on either side.
