Maxxis is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Cheng Shin Rubber Co. Ltd, the ninth-largest tyre maker in the world. They started operations in the 1960s and originally made bicycle tyres before foraying into the motorcycle segment. They inaugurated their India operations in 2014.
The first commercial success was a joint venture with Honda to manufacture tyres for the Activa 3G in 2015.
The Maxxis 6302 is a small-diameter tyre offered for use in scooters and entry-level bikes. The primary condition for use in this segment is life since such tyres experience more wear and tear due to their slight dimensions.
Three different sizes are on offer, as below

Tyre Compound
The M6302 is a road-focused product, with emphasis on longer life, resistance to punctures, braking feedback and low-speed grip. The compound, therefore, contains a higher proportion of silica and other additives. In spite of being available in three different sizes, the overall importance is only placed on economy and life.
Tyre Construction
As evident from the table at the opening of this article, the Maxxis M6302 is available for rims compatible with 12, 17 and 18-inch tyres. This tyre size is predominantly seen in scooters and entry-level motorcycles from Bajaj, Honda, TVS. Yamaha, Mahindra, Hero Motocorp and Suzuki. The tyres feature a rounded shoulder and an asymmetric tread pattern. This helps in improving confidence while turning, and while braking. The blocked tread patterns help in load distribution, which reduces braking distance and improves off-road grip. The ‘eyebrow’ pattern used in the Maxxis M6302 helps channel water away from the centerline of the tyre carcass. This improves grip on mild to moderately-wet surfaces.
Maxxis M6302 Tyre Performance
The Maxxis M6302 is one of the most affordable tyres on sale right now. For the price, the tyres come with a compound that can last at least 15,000 kilometres, while offering moderate wet grip and good dry grip. The central ‘eyebrow’ pattern tread does a good job of channelling water away from the main body of the tyre. The blocked pattern increases the surface area on bad roads and in slush. The tyres are built out of nylon, and that adds a lot of structural rigidity. For the segments that the M6302 is marketed, fuel efficiency is a prime concern. Hence, the tyres are lighter and have low rolling resistance.
Maxxis M6302 Tyre Sizes
The Maxxis M6302 is available in three sizes spanning three two-wheeler segments. All tyres are tubed, and tyres other than the smallest 90/90-12 are tubed. The Maxxis M6302 series is pretty good in mild rains, which is why it’s recommended for city use.

Maxxis M6302 Tyre Fuel Efficiency
Real-world fuel-efficiency figures are at least 20% below official ones. Factors affecting mileage include tyre pressure, average speed and loading. The Maxxis M6302 tyres are available in 12, 17 and 18-inch sizes, which means that they’re meant for scooters and entry-level motorcycles. These motorcycles, by nature, sell because they offer great fuel efficiency. Thanks to the lightweight design, narrow contact patch and the hard compound used in the M6302, you will not see a drop in fuel-efficiency as long as you’re treating your tyres right. These aren’t high-speed tyres, so hard braking and overspeeding will waste fuel.
Maxxis M6302 Tyre Warranty
Maxxis offers the following warranty terms
- Free replacement for tyres if rendered unserviceable within 1 year from date of purchase
- 5-year unconditional warranty if the tyre has been purchased from an authorised outlet
Maxxis M6302 Tyre Speed and Load Rating
The tyre speed and load ratings are as below:
Tyre |
Speed Rating |
Speed in kph |
Load Rating |
Load in kg |
90/90-12 | J | 100 | 53 | 206 |
2.75 – 17 | P | 150 | 41 | 145 |
2.75 – 18 | P | 150 | 42 | 165 |
Key observation – The smallest tyre, the 90/90-12 is stressed to take the maximum load, because it sits lower and should have a much higher capacity to deform. That’s also why scooter tyres are inflated at up to 10 psi higher than motorcycle tyres.
Maxxis M6302 Tyre Competitors
Timsun, a slightly more expensive make, is quite closely matched with Metzeler in terms of versatility. Other competitors are the Pirelli Angel C.T., Michelin Pilot Street and the Apollo Alpha series. Budget-friendly options include the CEAT Rad, Metro Conti Go, and the Revz series from MRF.
Using price as a filter, Maxxis makes some of the cheapest tyres in the business. If you’re looking for a slightly premium make, try CEAT and MRF. We suggest going for a tubeless option, no matter what size you’re shopping for.

Verdict
The Maxxis M6302 is by no means the best tyre for your two-wheeler. It doesn’t offer the most grip and is prone to skidding on braking hard. It’s not a performance tyre, and will not instil confidence at high speeds. But. it was never meant for that. A tyre meant for the segments the M6302 serves should be affordable, offer good mileage and last long. Many users have praised the longevity of all Maxxis products. Some last upwards of 20,000 kilometres. The Maxxis M6302 is a low-noise product, and that’s because the tyre carcass is hard enough to prevent rolling slack (deformation seen in heavier tyres). The strong construction and hard compound make sure the M6302 a potent budget tyre.
