Kia Puts Up India’s First 150 kW Charger In Gurugram, Haryana

Kia has constructed India’s first 150kWh charging station at its Gurugram dealership as part of its ambition to improve the country’s electric vehicle infrastructure. By the end of next month, the Korean automobile business plans to deploy 15 150kWh chargers in 12 Indian cities.

It is learnt that it is going to be the most rapid EV charger in the nation. Compatible with electric vehicles from other manufacturers Kia intends to deploy 15 fast chargers by August 2022. The DC fast charger, according to Kia, can charge the EV6’s 77.6kWh battery from 10 to 80 percent in less than 42 minutes. Since the EV6 is capable of accepting up to 350kWh of DC fast charging, the new charger is a huge improvement over the regular 22kWh wall box charger.

In September 2022, Kia will begin delivering its flagship EV6 crossover, which was just introduced in India and will be sold via the CBU channel. The advertised range of the EV6 is 528 kilometres, and production is restricted to 100 units in 2022.

In the meantime, sibling brand Hyundai is preparing to launch the domestically produced Ioniq 5 to gain a pricing edge against the EV6. Kia and Hyundai intend to launch six new EVs in India by 2024, including the facelifted Kona and the e-Niro electric crossover.
