Hankook Tyre Wins 2018 IDEA Award
The South Korean tyre manufacturing giant, Hankook Tyre, recently won 2018 IDEA award for its Kinergy AS ev, a tyre specially made for electric vehicles. This tyre was recognised as the winner in the International Design Excellence Awards (IDEA) 2018 in the automotive and transportation category. This year’s event was held in the US city of New Orleans.
Hankook Tyre in the previous ceremonies of IDEA awards has won many awards for its futuristic concept tyres. The tyre manufacturer was a bronze winner in the year 2015 and the finalist in 2017. However, this is for the first time, Hankook Tyre has received an award for a mass production model at IDEA.
The Kinetic AS ev tyre offers hyper low noise environment which is optimised for electric vehicles. Decent handling and excellent driving comfort make it a high-performance passenger tyre. The Kinergy AS ev tyre has a block design similar to that of electric circuits and has a customised electrical vehicle sidewall design for better aerodynamic performance.
Hankook has employed several technologies to reduce noise that includes a special technology that optimises the pitch arrangement to reduce a certain frequency that persists while driving. Another technology employed is an aramid hybrid reinforcement belt meant for e-vehicles so as to minimize tread block distortion when navigating direction. This way the tyre is able to maintain optimum grip thus offering better handling and stability.
Hankook tyre received the award in recognition to the company’s design philosophy and its potential to lead the future driving environment. The Korean tyre maker is planning to continue to focus on the active development of innovative designs to retain its status as a leader in the tyre industry.
The IDEA award is given by Industrial Design Society of America and is recognized all over the world as one of the top awards in the designing field. It is one of the top three design awards in the world along with the ‘Red Dot Design Award’ and ‘iF DESIGN AWARD’. The entries for the IDEA awards are closely evaluated on multiple parameters such as design innovation, aesthetics, corporate social responsibility (CSR) and user experience & benefit so as to choose the winners in each category.
