Latest technology to monitor tread depth and tyre pressure without any equipment

indian tyre industry faces carbon black shortage

In the latest development, Wheel Right, an Oxford-based company has developed a tyre technology that can measure tyres’ tread depth and pressure in seconds. And that too without using any equipment. The technology was recently unveiled in U.S.A at the “Highway of The Future” live project.

The technology is adopted by an 18 mile stretch of highway (The Ray) in U.S between the states of Georgia and Alabama. The aim is to show the world that zero carbon, zero waste and zero deaths can be achieved on the U.S roads. This solution is apt for smart city applications as it will provide a detailed account of tyre condition via kiosks in printed form or directly to your smartphone/laptop.

The technology works with road-embedded sensor plates that measures tyre pressure when a vehicle is driven on that road. Further, multi-imaging technology and image software is used to know the tyre tread depth. The good news is that KIA Motors Manufacturing Georgia and The Ray have committed to provide this facility for free to all the drivers sing The Ray. They will also fully fund the acquisition and installation of this tyre safety technology by Wheel Right.

Goodyear Eagle 360 Concept Tyre

Earlier this year, U.S. tyre making giant Goodyear has revealed its Eagle-360 Concept Tyre. A tyre technology that will allow drivers to move their cars “sideways”, yes soon this is going to be a reality. Goodyear’s this invention was named among “Best Inventions in 2016” by TIME magazine. They also made a revolutionary contribution to the tyre world by introducing 2 futuristic concept tyres called BHO3 and Triple Layer. The former can generate electric energy through the heat produced by the rolling of tyres. This electric energy can be used to charge batteries of electric vehicles. While the Triple Layer, as the name suggests has 3 different layers in it. It can adjust itself on any road condition.
