Falken Tyre Wins 'Tire Technology of the Year' Award For New Compound Technology

Japan’s Falken Tire has recently won the “Tire Technology of the Year Award” at the Tire Technology International Awards for innovation and excellence 2017. The award was presented on 15th February 2017, at the Tire Technology Expo in Hanover, Germany.

Falken’s cutting edge Advanced 4D Nano Design Technology was chosen winner by an independent panel consisting of 28 international tyre industry experts. As per company’s claim the use of Advanced 4D Nano Design technology has resulted in ground-breaking tyre compounds with improved traction and wear life as well as significantly reduced rolling resistance. The award was received on behalf of the company by Kozaburo Nakaseko, Senior Executive Officer of Sumitomo Rubber Industries. He said, “We have made great progress in terms of material innovation and the development of new manufacturing processes”.

The technology is developed Sumitomo Rubber Industries (SRI), the world’s 6th largest tyre manufacturer and parent company of Falken Tyre. Through Advanced 4D Nano Design technology engineers can perform highly realistic simulations of the complex internal structures and behaviors of rubber materials across multiple scales of magnitude simultaneously.

It is the fifth time that SRI has been presented with a Tire Technology International Award. Its previous 4 awards came on the following occasions:

Win for Enasave 97 Passenger Tire in 2008.
Win for Fourth-generation run flats in 2010.
Win for Environmental Achievement of the Year Award in 2009 and 2014.

Praising SRI and their ground-breaking technologies Graham Heeps, Editor of Tire Technology International and Chairman of the judging panel said, SRI has established an enviable reputation in tire technology in the past few years.

This year was the 10th edition of the Tire Technology International Awards for Innovation and Excellence, the world’s biggest celebration in the field of tire development and manufacturing. These awards are presented in 5 major categories by a panel of independent international experts in the field.
