Tokyo-based leading tyre manufacturer, Bridgestone Corporation has launched Firestone FR500 and Firestone Destination LE02 for cars and SUVs respectively. Initially, America’s century-old eminent tyre brand, Firestone will concentrate on the passenger car and SUV segment. Although the tyre firm did not disclose any details related to the pricing, however, ascertained that the tyres will be produced at its Chakan (Pune) and Kheda (Indore) facilities.
At the launch of Firestone brand, Mr Kazuhiko Mimura Managing Director, Bridgestone India stated that in the last couple of years India has surfaced as an automotive market that is booming at a rapid pace. Starting with passenger cars and SUVs, Firestone will later extend its reach to other tyre segments.
With its excellent quality and upright service levels alongside wide spread dealership network, the tyre major is confident of gaining fair market share.
In the year 1900, Firestone tire and rubber company was founded by Harvey Firestone at Akron, Ohio, and after its existence of about 88 years, in 1988, Japanese tyre magnate Bridgestone Corporation took over all the operations of Firestone. This helped Bridgestone become one of the largest tyre and rubber manufacturing companies across the globe.
Bridgestone forayed into the prospering Indian tyre market in 1996 and its first production facility was established in March 1998 at Kheda near Indore in Madhya Pradesh, while 2013 witnessed the initiation of its second facility in Chakan, Pune.
Besides tyres Bridgestone also manufactures an extensive range of diversified products such as industrial rubber, chemical products and sporting goods, which are sold world-wide in 150 plus markets.
