For adopting green manufacturing practices and deploying sustainability, JK Tyre Industries’ Chennai plant has been awarded second best company by the International Research Institute for Manufacturing (IRIM). Larsen and Toubro Rubber Processing Machinery in Kanchipuram, Chennai got the third prize while the top award went to Bharat Petroleum Corporation (BPCL) Mumbai refinery. Thirteen companies were recognised by IRIM, said an official statement.

Speaking on the occasion, Anand Louie, Director-IRIM emphasised on the green manufacturing scenario in India and the need for companies to adopt green manufacturing practices. He was of the view that by using green manufacturing technologies an organisation cannot only bring business growth but can also contribute to the betterment of the environment.

IRIM, as an unbiased third party evaluated and rated each company on its unique Green manufacturing barometer. This rating was achieved through a structured assessment of the manufacturing facility on 15 indicators of IRIM’s Green Manufacturing framework. The assessment was then customised to each facility by assigning unique weightage to each of these indicators based on organisation’s priorities to become more sustainable.
