Michelin, the largest French tyre manufacturer and one of the global leaders in aviation tyre industry has recently announced that it will now supply tyres to IndiGo Airlines for its ATR and Airbus fleets. Started in 2006, IndiGo is a low-budget Indian airline that is ranked among the top five airlines in the country. Michelin has claimed that its ‘Michelin AIR X’ radial tyres will provide a reduction in the operational costs through better fuel efficiency, exceptional resistance to foreign object damage and through an increased number of aircraft landing. These tyres are also environment-friendly due to the utilization of fewer components, radial casing design and less fuel consumption thereby leading to less CO2 emissions.
The President of Michelin Aircraft Tyre, Frank Moreau has told the media that Michelin aircraft tyres are perfectly adapted to the needs of the airline as they not only combines a high level of safety in extreme conditions, but also guarantee a large number of landings, thereby allowing fuel efficiency and environment friendliness. This strategic partnership between Michelin and IndiGo is set to bring a significant value to the aviation market in terms of both enhanced efficiency and safety and also in terms of contributing to a more eco-friendly and sustainable government.
Currently, Indigo Airlines has a fleet size of 180 plus aircraft, and operates flights regularly to 48 Indian and 11 international destinations.
