The 15th Maruti Suzuki Desert Storm Rally has come to an eventful end. This year’s rally saw more than 200 participants, rallying in four major categories – Xplore, Endure, Moto, and Extreme. The thrilling motorsport rally event was organised by the renowned Northern Motorsport and sponsored by India’s leading carmaker Maruti Suzuki. Mahindra & Mahindra, Mobil, Motorola, Kingfisher Blue, etc. were some of the major co-sponsors.
Tyremarket was represented by two young and energetic racers – Arjun & Jathin. The duo was rallying with a specially modified Maruti Suzuki Esteem. Their car was tagged number “308” and they participated in the Xplore category. Jathin was doing the duties of the driver while Arjun performed the role of the navigator as per the rally’s rules and regulations. The duo faced difficulty in the last stage of the rally as their car was stuck in the mud. But, still, they gave their best and made sure that Tyremarket secured 4th position in the Xplore category.
Maruti Suzuki has transcended its efforts beyond selling automobiles and has supported and promoted motorsport in the form of events such as ‘Desert Storm’, ‘Dakshin Dare’ and ‘Autocross’. Vinay Pant, Associate Vice President, Marketing, was of the view that it was Maruti Suzuki’s dream to promote and build a culture of motorsport in India since 1980s. We feel like that it is a part of our Maruti Suzuki Brand and now the motorsport is much more exciting and affordable for normal enthusiasts. Motorsport is a kind of offering to our customers that we feel proud of ourselves.
Since last 2 years, Maruti Suzuki Desert Storm Rally has gathered a lot of interest from different quarters. The rally has its unique charm because of the geography that it covers, the great Indian Thar Desert. The night driving of 150 kms near Jaisalmer is considered as the toughest phase of any rally in India. However, the rally in total covers more than 2,000 kms from National Capital Region (NCR) to Jodhpur. The rules require usage of only a single vehicle throughout the rally. No change of vehicle is permitted.
