New Hyundai Santro 2018 Overview
The all-new Hyundai Santro is here again, with its second innings, to disrupt the segment with a fresh approach. Hyundai Motors India launched the 2018 Hyundai Santro with the caption: ‘India’s Favourite Family Car’, which recalls its legendary status and echoes the hearts of millions of customers in the country. The Santro falls in the price bracket of Rs 3.89 lakh and Rs 5.64 lakh (ex-showroom, pan India). The legendary ‘Santro’ moniker made its debut in 1998 in India, followed by an upgrade christened ‘Santro Xing’ in 2003, which ruled the segment for over a decade. The second generation Hyundai Santro sees the sun exactly after twenty years and one month. The all-new Santro with its signature tall boy design gets pleasing exterior dimensions as well as fantastic cabin space with loads of entertainment and hi-tech goodies. Offered in sole petrol engine with either choice of manual gearbox or automatic manual transmission (AMT), the budget Hyundai car is also made available with factory-fitted CNG kit. The 2018 Santro is the first car from Hyundai stable to receive an AMT.
New Hyundai Santro 2018 Price In India
Considering price-conscious buyers, the all-new 2018 Santro is priced quite aptly. It all starts with base D Lite variant tagged at Rs 3.9 Lakh followed by mid variants Era and Magna at Rs 4.25 Lakh and Rs 4.58 Lakh respectively. Furthermore, the Sportz falls at Rs 5.0 Lakh, and top end Asta at Rs 5.46 Lakh. On the other hand, the automatic variants come in the form of Magna AMT at Rs 5.19 Lakh and Sportz AMT at Rs 5.24 Lakh. Likewise, the eco-friendly clean fuel models Magna CNG and Sportz CNG flaunt the price label of Rs 5.24 Lakh and Rs 5.65 Lakh correspondingly. All prices mentioned are of ex-showroom, pan India.
2018 Hyundai Santro Engine & Specifications
The second-gen Santro is packed with Hyundai’s updated ‘Epsilon’ petrol engine. It is a 1.1 L, 1066cc, 4-cylinder, 12V powertrain that can give out a maximum power of 69 PS at 5500 rpm and a peak torque of 99 Nm at 4500 rpm with petrol as fuel. Moreover, when fuelled with CNG, it produces 59 PS of maximum power at 5500 rpm and 84 Nm of peak torque at 4500 rpm. The petrol powered versions have 5-speed manual transmission and 5-speed AMT gearboxes on offer, while the CNG models are equipped with 5-speed manual transmission only.
New Hyundai Santro Mileage
Powered by the 1.1 L, 4-cylinder, 12V engine the new 2018 Santro gets two fuel choices – petrol and CNG. The petrol powered motor (69 PS & 99 Nm) delivers a superior mileage of 20.3 kmpl, while the CNG fuelled motor (59 PS & 84 Nm) returns a healthy fuel efficiency of 30.48 km/kg
New Hyundai Santro Tyres
The new Santro is made available in five variants, which are equipped with tyres of different sizes. The starting trims i.e. D Lite, Era and Magna are shod with 155/80 R 13 tyres and steel wheels, while the mid and top trims, Sportz and Asta, are shod with larger 165/70 R 14 tyres and steel wheels. Both the tyre sizes presented are of tubeless nature. Here, the D Lite, Era and Magna come with hub caps, whereas, Sportz and Asta get wheel covers. There are no alloy wheels on the offer in any of the trim. Moreover, the spare tyre provided is of size 155/80 R 13 steel wheel.
Hyundai Santro 2018 Safety
Although, the 2018 Santro is a budget hatchback, however, still the safety equipments on offer are encouraging. The list of safety and security features comprise of dual airbags system at front, Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) with EBD, rear parking sensors, rear parking camera (with display on audio), speed sensing auto door lock/unlock, rear defogger, front seatbelt pretensioners, engine immobilizer, central locking, front fog lamps, day and night inside rear view mirror, keyless entry, child safety door locks and fire extinguisher (for CNG powered variants). What’s more, the driver side airbag and ABS with EBD come standard across all the variants.

The front design, minus the grille, of the new Santro gives a slight impression of discontinued Hyundai i10 hatch. The frontage with a wide grille, bold fog lamp housing and bumper with suave creases provide the Santro with an out and out sporty styling. The side profile of the car features Z-shaped character lines and body color door handles, whereas, the turn indicators on the ORVMs lend aesthetic appeal to the tall-boy. The rear is cleanly laid and feature dual tone bumpers with reflectors, high mount stop lamp, micro antenna (first in segment) and stylish tail lamp design enhances the sporty appeal of the car.

The 2018 Santro is offered in as many as seven exterior paint choices namely – Typhoon Silver, Polar White, Stardust, Imperial Beige, Marina Blue, Fiery Red and Diana Red.

The 2018 Santro is devised on a new platform and carries a sufficient wheelbase, which results in a roomy cabin for the occupants. There is no lag in terms of front and rear headroom. All the trims are endowed with a dual-tone beige and black cabin, while models with green-finish receive an all-black interior treatment. Some of the new age tech features of Santro consist of ‘Elephant Inspired’ unique center fascia, mirror link and iblue smartphone app for audio remote control, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, Hyundai SYNC, 17.64cm touch-screen AV system with smartphone connectivity, 2DIN audio system, steering mounted audio and Bluetooth controls, rear parcel tray, power windows, instrument cluster with tachometer, rear seat bench folding, power socket and USB port etc.

The tall boy design hatchback does lives up to its name with notable dimensions. The wheelbase of new Santro stands at 2400 mm, while the length stretches to 3,610 mm, width comes at 1,645 mm and height extends to 1,560 mm. Moreover, the boot space measures a good 235 L. The 2018 Santro gets fuel tank capacity of 35 L (petrol) and 60 kg (CNG).
