Paint Your Car Wheels Today

We Indians are god-gifted with a ‘keeda’ of experimenting new things, so why not try something amazing this time. Let’s give your vehicle a head-turner look. There are several ways you can renovate your car but the most passionate and cool thing would be to colour wheels. It’s a misconception that painting the wheels is expensive. However, the reality is it’s quite cost-effective and can be done at home in a day or two. Car wheel paint gives your vehicle a dynamic and fresh look, alongside making your car appear distinctive. Here we explain you how to do that in relatively easy steps.

1. The Materials:

You cannot just pick up any paint and flash it on your wheels. Only pick those that are designated to be an ideal car wheel paint which lasts longer and maintains the freshness of your wheels. Secondly, before the paint job, you first need to detach the wheels from your car and for that you will require a jack lift, jack stand and a tyre tool. In case you want to paint all the four wheels, you will need four jack lifts to perform this task.

2. Cleaning the wheels:

After you have removed the car wheels, make sure you leave the jack in its place as you will have to install the wheels again. For washing the wheels, gather a bucket of water, degreaser, detergent, drop cloth and sponge. Now mix soap with warm water in 1/4 ratio and wash off dirt from the wheels using a sponge or any cloth.

3. Degreasing and Sanding:

For more smoothness and making your wheels free from obstinate particles like brake-dust or grease, apply some wheel degreaser on both side of the wheel and rinse. Wait for some time to let it dry. Next, in order to remove any existing paint you have to sand-off the rust using 1,000 grit sandpaper. Now rinse off the grit with water and apply some mineral spirit using a cloth. This will remove any oils that could hinder the smooth application of the primer. Rinse again and wait for the wheels to completely air dry.

4. Applying Primer Paint:

Before beginning with the paint, place the wheel on a drop cloth and put masking tape around it. It is better to cover the tyre with some newspaper so that it does not get sprayed while painting. Spraying alloy wheels need a lot of patience. Here you have to gently spray a thin coat first just to avoid dripping. Wait for at least 10-15 minutes to let it dry. You have to go through two-three rounds of coating before giving it the final touch. Now next step is to apply a clear protection paint or protection coating to the painted surface of the wheel. It will prevent the colour from fading. Repeat the steps 2-3 times giving 15 minutes break in each round. Now you are done. Allow the paint to dry for at least 24 hours and remove the masking tape from around the wheel.

Applying color wheel paint can make your vehicle look like a customised vehicle at a relatively low cost. You may also opt for a professional help to do this for you. It might cost a little bit more but the end result would be satisfying.
