Continental’s Dandelion Rubber Tyre Makes Its Way To Public

Continental Dandelion Rubber Tyre Makes Its Way-To-Public

Conti EcoPlus HD3, the newest tyre from Continental is finally out for us to see. It is the first truck tyre made from dandelion rubber. Further, as per Continental’s claims, it is going to be good as any other tyres made from natural way through traditional methods. The project was a joint venture among Continental Tires, The Fraunhofer Institute for Molecular Biology and Applied Ecology, Julius Kuehn-Institute, and EKUSA

The company claimed that these new dandelion rubber tires will offer:

  • Superior retreadability
  • Good fuel efficiency
  • High level of traction consistently

After the successful launch of their premium winter tyre in 2014, Continental announced their plans for the first commercial vehicle tire. The testing for the same got underway and after successful tests, the product became a reality. Moreover, the new dandelion rubber made tires are said to be a perfect alternative for conventional rubber and is best suited to the growing needs of commercial vehicle segment.

Continental has long been working towards finding innovative and economically as well as ecologically viable options to cope up with the ever-increasing natural rubber demand. And now they have found the “future of tires” in the form of dandelion rubber tire.

The dandelion used in their tire is no ordinary one rather a specific variety that is found in plenty in Russia. According to Continental, this will also help them reduce CO2 emissions as the production of rubber will take place near their factories in Europe. This will mean shorter transportation routes for the raw material to reach factories.
