The Mahindra Thar is made available in two variants, i.e., the CRDe and the DI. The macho SUV has got adequate power and torque values for effortless day-to-day urban driving and country cruising.

A vehicle that was meant for no-roads first and then went on to become a road-friendly car is the Thar. The iconic SUV has been in the market for around 8 years now and is still going strong in terms of popularity. Though it is difficult for other cars to compete with this off-roader, still, the inline competitors for the Thar include Force Gurkha, Maruti Gypsy and its own housemate Mahindra Bolero.
Mahindra Thar has a no-nonsense bulky look and legendary style with big chrome bull bar at the front. The large Mahindra MM540 like bonnet may remind one of the nineties Jeep 540 but the Thar looks really magnificent in comparison. The fat fenders have a plastic extension to save it from rocks, water, and dirt. The rollover bar and the spare wheel on the rear gate make the car look really macho. The Thar is offered in 5 colour variants, namely, Red Rage, Fiery Black, Mist Silver, Diamond White and Rocky Beige.
The interiors of the car have been amped up to match the city cruisers but still, the car is simply rugged, sturdy and best for adventure travel. The dual tone dashboard, identical steering wheel and front seats look decent according to a proper off-roader. The top variant is offered with manual air conditioner, single 12V power outlet, antiglare mirror and heater as standard. For infotainment, there is space for single din head but the brand is not offering it in any of its variants. Coming to the safety, this rugged jeep is not equipped with airbags or ABS. The only thing you will get is seat belts in the front, disc-brake, and high build quality.
The Mahindra Thar is available in two engine options, a 2498 cc CRDe and a 2523 cc DI (4WD / 2WD). The CRDe generates 105 hp at 3800 rpm and 247 Nm of torque at 1800-2000 rpm. On the other hand, the DI makes power output of 63 hp at 3200 rpm and 195 Nm of torque at 1400-2200 rpm. Both the engines are mated to a 5-speed manual transmission. The brand claims fuel economy of 13 kmpl for all the variants, which is impressive according to the high power off-roader.
Mahindra Thar Price
The Mahindra Thar is a pure rugged SUV with 4X2 and 4×4 options, which is a perfect car available for off-roading enthusiasts. The DI 2WD BS-IV is available with the price tag of Rs 6.47 Lakh, the DI 4WD BS-IV is offered at Rs 7 Lakh and the CRDe 4×4 AC has a price tag of Rs 9.25 Lakh. Above mentioned prices are for ex-showroom, New Delhi.
