Many people usually take it lightly when it comes to cleaning the car glasses properly, be it the windshields or door windows. But one should understand that cleaning the glasses in a wrong way will not only hinder your driving experience because of bad vision but also put a huge burden on your pocket. Not taking proper care of car windows would mean that you may be required to change the glasses earlier than its lifetime.

Here are some basic tips that will help you clean the car glasses in a proper way:

1. To clean the outside portion of the windows and windshield wash your car before cleaning the glasses. This way you will end up removing much dirt even before starting the cleaning.

2. Avoid using the ammonia-based window cleaner as it comes with side effects, such incompatibility with tinted windows and it also has harmful effects on the vinyl surfaces, leather and rubber. Moreover, inhaling ammonia vapours can cause serious health issues, so better avoid it in all circumstances. It is always better to look for those cleaning products, which say they are safe to use on tinted windows and that using them will cause no harmful effects.

3. Don’t just pick any cloth and start cleaning the glasses. It is advisable to purchase a good quality microfiber towel with a tight weave. While cleaning the glasses, dip one side of the towel in water and clean the glass. After cleaning the glasses use the dry side and gently remove any signs of streaking. Be gentle while cleaning as hard strokes may cause spots.

4. Windshield wipers are also one of the potential causes of the scratch on the glass. Do wipe the edges of wipers using a dampened cloth till you feel that they have become smooth enough.

5. Even after using quality products one can see the streaks formation. This is due to the wrong technique of washing/cleaning the windows. If you are using a spray, then do not directly spray it on the glass rather first spray on the microfiber towel and then proceed to wipe the windows using the towel. However, for outside portion, you can directly spray the liquid and wipe the glass. A basic technique to wipe the glass is doing it in a rhythmic pattern (up to down) not in a haphazard manner. This ensures that the entire glass is cleaned without leaving streaks or spots.

6. It is quite common to see numerous water spots after cleaning the car windows. The best way to clean these spots is to use a quality glass polishing product. There are plenty available in the market, you can choose as per your liking and budget.

Apart from the window and windshield glasses, you should also take care of the reflectors glasses. Replace them if they are broken as it will help you drive safely. Also, the light glasses must be taken care of properly as well. If they have developed any defect or are broken, replace them immediately. It is a very common practice in our part of the world to drive with your light glasses broken. However, one must always refrain from doing so unless in an emergency.
