Michelin To Add RFID To All truck Tyres

Michelin North America Inc. has started building Radio Frequency Identification Tags (RFID) into its commercial truck tyres and retreads. RFID will help users to track the tyre all its lifecycle, including retreading. This will also help fleets to manage their maintenance and assets more efficiently than before.

Also, the MICHELIN® Tire Care™ tyre maintenance program is being upgraded to include new features offering fleets’ assurance, greater visibility, and ease with regard to their tyres’ maintenance. Michelin has now become the first manufacturer to integrate RFID to its truck tyres.

The company has made it clear that initially the sensors’ data storage will be limited. Soon the company will expand the capability to store and transmit additional data around different operating parameters with subsequent generations of RFID sensors. According to Ralph Dimenna, Chief Operating Officer, Michelin Americas Truck Tires (MATT), technology in trucking industry is changing fast and Michelin is at the forefront to improve and the fleet performance.
