Day 1 of the New Year witnessed the ceremonial start ceremony, which was held to kick off of the Dakar Rally 2017 in Asucion, Paraguay. Here the Indian lad Aravind KP (Race Number: 77), the official rider of Sherco TVS Factory Rally Team, made his debut on the podium where all the other riders and drivers participating in the Dakar rally were introduced.
Aravind KP was extremely excited about his experience on the podium; he stated that he had been patiently waiting for months for this dreamlike moment to come in his life. It was a proud moment to stand with your bike at the Dakar flag-off ceremony, he added. He was grateful to the entire team at TVS Racing and Sherco for getting him this far in the competition. He has now got all the eyes on the first stage on Monday, though it’s a short stage, however, it will assist him in preparing for tougher levels ahead, he further stated.
After the technical and administrative inspection, all the 318 vehicles comprising of 144 motorcycles, 37 quads, 87 cars, 10 SSVs, and 50 trucks together with a total of 501 competitors were given a green signal to begin the 39th edition of the Dakar Rally 2017.
Moreover, on Monday i.e. the 2nd of January 2017, the drivers, riders and crews will take one-on-one in the rally’s Paraguayan special, which is a 38.5 kilometer long stage.
