This summer the race to become the leader in the SUV segment is going to get hotter. Two heavyweights are locking horn against each other. The Japanese SUV (Toyota Fortuner) is about to get serious competition from Indian Mahindra Alturas G4 which has impressed its buyers on a lot of fronts.

Design

Both the SUVs score on par with each other with slight differences. On one hand, we have the Mahindra Alturas G4 with a much more elegant look while on the other hand, the Toyota Fortuner sports a more butch stance and is sharper than the Alturas. Fortuner’s tough and aggressive look is a result of its bold headlamp design and thick chrome slats flanking its grille. While Mahindra’s Alturas is eye-catching and pleasing to look at with its smooth exterior. Fortuner’s tail lights are sharper in looks and appear higher set while that of Alturas G4, despite being taller, looks simpler from the rear and looks shorter.

Interior

When it comes to the dashboard, both offer premium feel; however, the Fortuner’s is more functional and uses a generous amount of leather. The Mahindra Alturas G4 boasts better interior ambience with it quilted nappa leather finish. Although the Toyota Fortuner has all-black theme giving it a sportier look, but it takes away the sense of spaciousness in this SUV. The Alturas G4 feels more spacious and has electric sunroof as well. Move to the second row and you will feel the extra space that Fortuner offers compared to Alturas. On the infotainment front, the Mahindra Alturas G4 gets an 8-inch high resolution and brighter screen compared to Toyota Fortuner’s 7-inch touchscreen.

Features

It is here that Mahindra Alturas G4 has scored over Fortuner. Alturas G4 has equipped with HID headlamps and LED fog lamps.it also comes with 360-degree parking camera and front parking sensors which the Fortuner does not. One major comfort that Alturas G4 gives is that you can open the boot with the key inside your pocket. On the other hand, Toyota Fortuner requires manually unlocking the boot.

Performance

When it comes to power under the hood, The Toyota Fortuner with its bigger engine scores over Alturas G4. It comes with a 2.8-litre diesel engine that offers 177PS and 450Nm while that of Alturas G4 is a 2.2 litre engine that offers 180PS and 420Nm. The engine in Toyota Fortuner is coupled with a 6-speed automatic gearbox and also have paddle shifters. On the other hand, Mahindra’s Alturas lacks paddle shifter with its Mercedes Benz 7-speed automatic engine.

Off-Road experience

One of the reasons that make Toyota Fortuner immense popular is it’s off road capability though both SUVs come with 4-wheel drive. You can try taking out both these SUVs for any demanding off-road experience.
