Maruti Wagon R Best Tyre Upsizing Options
Maruti Suzuki Wagon R is one of the most practical entry-level hatchbacks in the country. The tall boy design car receives a stylish exterior design coupled with a spacious cabin. Though since its launch it hasn’t received much of upgrade in terms of design and aesthetics, still it is popular among families looking for a versatile vehicle car with an inexpensive price label. Maruti Wagon R is the only entry-level car to feature advanced aspects such as Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) and Auto Gear Shift (AGS). Besides practicality and value for money pricing element, the car also imbibes a frugal engine with a choice of petrol and petrol + CNG engine alternatives.
Maruti Wagon R Tyres
Across the lineup, Maruti Wagon R hatchback is equipped with 145/80 R 13 and 155/65 R 14 radial tubeless tyres as original equipment. Variants such as LXi and LXi CNG come fitted with 145/80 R 13 tyres, while VXi, VXi AGS, VXi+ and VXi+ AGS are shod with bigger 155/65 R 14 tyres.

The base LXi and LXi CNG variants of the Maruti Wagon R, which have 145/80 R 13 stock tyres, can be fitted with wider 155/70 R 13 tyres. With these set of broad tyres, the car will offer a low profile appearance with a decrease in the ground clearance by 2.7 percent coupled with a 15 mm decrease in the diameter of each tyre. Similarly, the second recommended upsizing choice comes as 175/70 R 13 tyres. This will result in an increase in the ground clearance by 2.3 percent due to an increase in the width of the tyres alongside 13 mm rise in the diameter of the tyres.
Likewise, the VXi, VXi AGS, VXi+ and VXi+ AGS variants are stocked with 155/65 R 14 tyres and can be upgraded with bigger 165/65 R 14 tyres. This is the one and only upsize option available under recommended tyre upsizing. The upgrade will result in a 2.3 percent increase in the ground clearance alongside 13 mm increase in the diameter change, due to the rise in the width of the tyre. There is no second upsize option for the top end spec variants of the Maruti Wagon R hatchback.
Remember, if the width is increased it will result in better handling of the car, whereas if there is a change in the rim size due to upsizing it will provide more ground clearance in some cases.
Moreover, the difference in the ground clearance should be max up to 3% or less than 3% against its actual clearance. In case, if the increase or decrease in the ground clearance is of more than 3% then it may affect the functioning of the odometer and might touch the fender or the car body while driving.
Note – The above-mentioned tyre upsizing options may affect odometer reading marginally. These upsizes are suggested as per our upsizing calculation.
Can I upgrade from R13 to R14 in wagon R CNG. As spare tyre has specific fitment in boot so will we be able to fit spare R14 in new model
