American multinational tyre manufacturer in India, Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company has exhibited its 120 years of excellence in innovating products for its consumers at the Auto Expo 2018. One of the most accentuating and ground-breaking highlight has been none other than – the ‘Eagle -360’ tyre concept, which is particularly developed for the future autonomous cars. The spherical-shaped Eagle-360 visionary concept tyre for autonomous cars is said to restructure the future of autonomous cars in terms of connectivity, manoeuvrability and biomimicry.
The showcased future-oriented spherical-shaped Goodyear Eagle-360 concept tyre would provide driverless cars with three significant characteristics i.e. (a) exceptional manoeuvrability, (b) seamless connectivity and (c) biomimicry for optimum safety of the occupants.
Maneuverability:
The tyre is spherical in shape and can move in any direction allowing the vehicle to travel in all directions. This feature ascertains the safety for the occupants alongside, parking of the car with such tyres can also prove hassle-free, as they can cope very well with space restrictions in the squeezed parking zones or busy city streets.
Connectivity:
The connectivity aspect comes handy with respect to safety as it communicates the real-time road and weather conditions to the vehicle control system with the help of embedded sensors. Furthermore, superior mileage is attained by way of pressure monitoring technology that allows even wear of the 360-degree tyre. Likewise, the connectivity via magnetic system ensures smooth and pliant ride for the occupants.
Biomimicry:
The 3D printed tread design on the tyre is inspired by the web-like pattern of brain coral. The round ball shape tyres appear like a natural sponge, however, has the capability to turn relatively hard under dry weather conditions and soft during wet/rainy conditions resulting in excellent driving performance and hydroplaning resistance.
