Pirelli & C. Spa which is a multinational company based in Milan (Italy) and is ranked as world’s 5th largest tyre manufacturing company has recently won a platinum award for its 2013 annual report titled ‘Spinning the Wheel’ in the Annual Reports 2014 – 2016 competition held by Graphis, a magazine dedicated to pre-eminent design production around the world. The most outstanding fact regarding the report ‘Spinning the Wheel’ was that it was the only one of the eight annual reports to achieve platinum status so far; rest 77 were being awarded gold medal and 92 with a silver medal.

According to Pirelli, the award acknowledges the capacity for innovation which has always been at the core of Pirelli and made them distinguishable, not only in their products but also in their methods of communication which also extend to telling the company’s story through an Annual Report which goes beyond numbers and technical texts. The 2013 Annual Report ‘Spinning the Wheel’ which is created by Cacao Design, combines the meticulous graphics with a touch of originality given by the volume’s 45-degree tilt.

In order to produce their 2013 annual report, Pirelli pulled up together nine emerging young international talents from the various fields such as Architecture, Physics design, Music, Film animation and Fashion and gave them the task of “reinventing” the wheel by bringing to light the creativity, intuition, commitment, tenacity and passion that give body to an idea, a project or a successful product.

Spinning the Wheel report has received and gathered praises even before this award at various other platforms. This report has been awarded the prestigious design and graphics citations such as: The Gold Trophy Award from the International Design Award (IDA), third prize in the Annual Reports category of the European Design Awards and the inclusion in the ADI Design Index, the annual listing of the ADI Association for Industrial Design.
