Mercedes-Benz’ new MBUX infotainment system offers everything from 3D to AR.

Mercedes is the epitome of comfort, speed, luxury and innovation. Recently, the automobile company announced the second generation Mercedes-Benz User Experience, or MBUX infotainment, in their forthcoming S-Class luxury sedan.

With their new infotainment, the upcoming S-Class will be smarter than its previous versions. The luxury sedan will have five screens under their upgraded MBUX system. Out of these, two will be placed for the front passengers and the remaining for the rear passengers.

The screen will be of 12.8-inches OLED touchscreen, which is the main control display. The company has replaced the 27 buttons with an amazing performing touchscreen for easy and quick access to information. Additionally, the climate control panels will be locked at the bottom of the screen for easy access.

While these changes are made to attract the attention, some features are kept as they were; such as the buttons for the light activations and the wipers for the windscreen. They still are in the same position. The MBUX Interior Assist will give a realistic feeling by recognizing and anticipating the desires of the passengers. It will also guess the intentions by understanding the head direction, movements of the hand and reading passenger’s body languages, and will respond accordingly with the respective features.

For instance, if the passenger has not switched on the light and is trying to look something in the dark, the Interior Assist will guess the function and will automatically switch on the light. Not only this, but the screens can also easily be controlled through voice or body gestures.

The advanced system will read the hand gestures of the driver or the passenger and can do functions like, opening up the sunroof, without even having to touch the control panel. These small functions give a feeling of real assistance doing the task for you while you’re on the go.

The MBUX Interior Assist is capable of ensuring the safety of the passengers. It can check if the child seat is properly attached or not. If not, it will intimate the driver or passenger. Along with this, the voice control system, which is now added for the rear passengers as well, can recognize 27 different languages in the world.

Additionally, Mercedes has introduced a 3D display, which according to them, is ‘achieved by the perfect and sophisticated amalgamation of the usual LCD screen with a predefined special pixel with a controllable LCD grille’. With this, the passengers will get a 3D effect without even wearing the 3D glasses.

The three screens for the rear passengers will give them a lot of control. Through the rear passenger screens, one can easily control navigation instructions or even the various settings of the car while on the move. This will help the passengers to guide through the map or even select their favourite radio station without having to disturb the driver.

Mercedes has also integrated its MBUX with their Mercedes Me cloud-based application. This will help the passengers to switch to their predefined setting as soon as they get in. This can be easily done by scanning the QR Code, which will automatically set the setting. The app can store seven user profiles.

They’ve also enhanced its facial recognition feature. In the new version of S-Class, the camera will detect if someone is getting out of the car. The ambient lighting is smartly integrated to warn passengers in case there are any chances of an accident while getting out. For instance, the ambient light will flash red in case there is a speeding car or bike while opening the door. This warning can save lives and certainly is needed in all future cars.

Since Augmented Reality (AR) is the thing of the future, the new version of S-Class will be the first car from the automobile giant to have AR overlays for the HUD. This is smartly used in the navigation offering better guidance to the driver on the dashboard screen. The same can be seen in the centre infotainment screen; however, the dashboard’s widescreen is the best place for the driver to navigate through the road without taking off the eyes from the road.

Since there is a worldwide lockdown and the world is trying to be afloat during the critical time, having a lavish introduction of the new S-Class is not possible. Hence, the company has decided to introduce it in a three-phase digital launch where it will reveal about the new version of S-Class with its amazing features, additions and modifications to grab the attention of the audience worldwide. The digital launch has started with the introduction of new MBUX features. The car is expected to be revealed completely by September 2020. So, let’s wait for the next revelation and see what the company has in the store for us.
