The previous generation Z4 by BMW was launched a decade ago and discontinued in 2016. After going through a couple of pauses, the BMW Z4 Roadster returns for 2019 with a brand-new look. With new features and a striking look, it is set to give a tough competition to its rivals like the Audi TT, Mercedes-Benz SLK and Porsche Boxster. First unveiled in August 2018, the supercar uses BMW’s Cluster Architecture (CLAR) and got a series of changes. Along with being a small and sporty roadster, it is now more of a luxury-laden convertible with classy exterior design and handling to match its rivals.
Lets Talk About Exterior
Just like their every other car, BMW’s new offering also has a smooth, stylish and purposeful look. But they have taken a new approach this time with the overall design, opting for something fresher. They have changed their traditional vertical bars in the kidney grilles and turned it into a diamond-patterned mesh. Usually, when automobile companies try to remake their particular product, things get wrong but luckily for BMW, the makeover came out really attractive. The car gets an aggressive appearance from sharp headlights that are pushed to the corners, the angular-cut bumper, and creased bonnet. The front fenders and air outlets are accentuated by twin lines running along the side. On the rear, there are slim taillamps and rear spoiler positioned on the trailing edge of the trunk. 18 inches is the standard alloy-wheel size, 19 inchers are optional.
What It’s Like On The Inside?
BMW has left behind its traditional crisp-and-clear gauge clusters and have opted for a high-tech route instead. Their latest-generation BMW iDrive system is called BMW Live Cockpit Professional that has been used in the 2019 Z4 Roadster. Along with other things, the system comes with Bluetooth and Apple CarPlay compatibility, giving the driver the facility to access the car from the BMW Connected app using Apple and Android devices.
In the front, the driver has a 12.3-inch digital screen with dials. On either side of the display are the main gauges for speed and engine rpm, positioned in two opposing C-shape configurations. A range of customizable displays for radio settings, navigation, and other necessary information is also available.
What’s Under The Hood?
2019 BMW Z4 has 255-horsepower, turbocharged four-cylinder that delivers 295 pounds-feet of torque. It is further coupled to an eight-speed automatic paddle shifters mounted on the steering wheel. If you step up to the Z4 M40i, you reach a turbocharged six-cylinder that delivers 382 hp and 369 pounds-feet of torque. The thing that is amiss in the vehicle is the manual gearbox. The 2019 Z4 offers automatic-only driving proposition. But that can be overlooked over the fact that the car accelerates from zero-to-60 mph in 5.2 seconds and 4.4 seconds when stepping up to the Z4 M40i. 155 mph is the electronically limited top speed in both the models.
Talking About Safety
The car is built for speed but BMW has not forgotten about the safety. The safety features in the 2019 BMW Z4 includes forward collision warning with pedestrian detection, low-speed emergency braking and lane departure warning. By spending little extra, you can get more features like blind spot monitors, rear cross-traffic alert and adaptive cruise control.
The 2019 Z4 has folding soft-top once again. The car is available in black or optional Anthracite (gray) with a silver effect. The driver can electrically operate the top, raising and lowering it in just 10 seconds and at the speed of 31 mph. BMW Z4 has changed and grown in every proportion compared to the previous model. It is an excellent car, looks sharp and a fun drive. Whether it is worthy of being one of your priced possession and being in your garage or not, is totally your call to take.
