Mahindra XUV500 Recommended Tyre Upsizing

Mahindra XUV500 Variants Stock Tyre Size Recommended Upsize
XUV500 W5 235/65 R 17 255/60 R 17
XUV500 W7 235/65 R 17 255/60 R 17
XUV500 W9 235/65 R 17 255/60 R 17
XUV500 W11 235/65 R 17 255/60 R 17

With its fascinating mean looks, modern interior design and robust built quality Mahindra XUV500 not only disrupts the segment but also takes mettle from a segment above. The recommended tyre upsize choice comes as the 255/60 R 17 tyres. With the swapping of these wider radial tyres, there will be an increase in the ground clearance and diameter by 0.1 percent and 0.5 mm respectively.  The upsize tyres with wide contact patch area will provide the XUV500 with better traction over the dry surface and superior handling at high speeds on long routes. Moreover, the slight rise in the ground clearance will allow a more comfortable off-road and adventure experience alongside an upright mannish emergence. The high ground clearance and broad contact patch of the tyres also help in confident steer through the waterlogged conditions besides enhanced better dry grip and cornering at speeds. ALSO READ: 10 Best Cars To Drive On The Himalayas

Remember, if you choose to go for recommended tyre upsize option the effect will be directly on the ground clearance aspect, as it will either increase or will get reduced. In order to maintain the best functioning of the instrument cluster, the ground clearance increase should be maximum up to 3 percent or less than 3 percent against the standard ground clearance. Likewise, if the increase or decrease in the ground clearance goes higher / lower than the (+ or -) 3 percent mark it will affect the functioning of the speedometer/odometer.

Note – The above-mentioned tyre upsizing options may affect odometer reading marginally. These upsizes are suggested as per our upsizing calculation.

    • Dear Jahangir,
The tyre size for Mahindra XUV500 W11 is 235/60 R18. For this size, Apollo Apterra H/T2 and Hankook RA23 Dynapro HP are two good tyres available in the economy range. In the premium segment, Pirelli RFS Verde (MOE) and Michelin Latitude Sport 3 and Goodyear Efficient Grip are three good options to go with.

        • Hi Raman,

No, we would not suggest going for 265/60. If you definitely want to go for an upsize. We would recommend 235/55 R19 rather.

          Thanks

  • Hi, I have XUV 500 W8 AWD (All Wheel Drive). Stock tyres Brigdestone Dueller 235/65/R17 served me well over 94,000 KMs and now I need to replace. (1) Is 255/60/R17 recommended upgrade without rsiking AWD functionality? (2) What good options do I have to ensure equal comfort & low humming noise on high speeds. (3) my drive is urban / interurban roads with occasional potholes. thanks.

    • Dear Jeevit,

“Hi there, upsizing 235/65 R17 to 255/60 R17 comes has a difference percentage of 0.07% which is well within the 3% percent difference margin that is recommended. In our opinion with all other factors intact this change should not affect the vehicle’s electronics. However it is best to consult your technician once again before you go for the up –size. unfortunately, the size you mentioned – 265/65 R17 is an aggressive upsize and would not be recommended. Do revert to the stock tyre size.
