Goodyear And Tesloop Looking Digital Future Of Tyres

Goodyear Tyres

The Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company has signed a technology agreement with California-based Tesloop Inc. to study and model tire performance based on data generated by the city to city mobility service.

Tesloop has been operating fleet of semi-autonomous Tesla vehicles providing a shared passenger transportation service for distances between 50 and 300 miles. Since its launch, Tesloop has been collecting data from each vehicle. Also, the company’s first vehicle in service is still running exclusively on Goodyear tyres.

Jim Euchner, Vice President of Global Innovation at Goodyear, said that their goal is to ensure that they can offer the most innovative range of tyre related technologies and services for the next generation of connected passenger mobility fleets and Tesloop’s leadership in the utilization of semi-autonomous connected, electric cars gives them the insight that the next generation of mobility may be a common occurrence.

As per Rahul Sonnad, Tesloop CEO, in coming years the leading passenger mobility services will migrate to autonomous, electric, supercharged vehicle platforms which will drastically lower the cost of transportation, increase miles driven and enable cars to run nearly 24 hours a day.

Euchner said that at Goodyear, they know the ability to gather realtime information about the road, driving conditions, and driving patterns which will play an increasing role in optimising tire performance for autonomous vehicles. With large amount of data being gathered from various sources, there is an unprecedented opportunity to create a realtime digital framework that may enhance both safety and range with lower operational costs.
