car servicing

If you drive your car out anywhere, one thing which will surely count as your ‘first impression’, before your own physical appearance, is the spick and span exterior emergence of your car. This actually describes a lot about you as a person. A clean well-maintained four-wheeler appeals all and is admired by everyone. And to keep your car’s exterior paint finish up, clean and sparkling for years to come, there is a need of frequent washing and polishing of your car. Although there are several procedures engaged in washing, polishing and waxing, it is not mandatory to perform them all at a time. In the car wash and polishing process, there are steps that can be done weekly, while some others can be performed every alternate month or yearly. So let’s learn how to wash, polish and wax your car to perfection and keep its paint in showroom condition.

Car Wash Preparations

• First things first, at the time of wash, always park your car at a place that is away from direct sunlight.

• Check the water that you will use to wash the car, if it’s hard, after evaporation it will leave behind spots on the paint’s finish. Normally, this occurs more quickly when the car is not parked in a cool, shady place.

• Never use dish or laundry soap or cleaners used for household cleaning. They are harsh and could take away the wax and spoil car’s finish.

• Use the clay bar designed for a car wash that has mild rough properties and can easily strip the surface dirt and impurities.

• And most importantly, choose right products at every stage of cleaning, as it will avoid any unnecessary harm to your car’s paint finish.

Step 1 – Car Washing

Out of all, this is the vital most aspect. Car washing removes the loose impurities collected on the surface of the paint. Here an authentic car wash product is needed. Usually, genuine car wash products are pH-balanced and are made to loosen and lift gritty residue, if any, besides pollutants on the paint surface without taking away the waxes.

Wash down the car from top to bottom using a microfiber washing mitt/hand. Professional car wash service providers generally use the same, because microfiber gets the dust bits away. After washing each panel of the car re-dip the microfiber washing mitt/hand in the water so that every panel gets a properly cleaned mitt every time. According to the experts, this sort of car wash is recommended weekly.

Step – 2 Car Cleaning

After you are done with the washing, check the above surface paint, search for raised impurities/dirt contaminants such as a thin layer of tree sap, bird mucks or other filths, alongside also look for defects such as spots or oxidation happened due to ultraviolet rays from the sun. To examine this more aptly, place your flat hand lightly on the paint finish surface and move it along the paint. If you don’t sense it smooth, certainly there are contaminants above the surface. Such impurities can be erased with the clay bar specially formulated for a car wash and can eliminate these contaminants. For below-the-surface or stubborn stains, use a mild cleaner with a microfiber cloth or foam applicator pad. Without applying any kind of hard pressure smear it with small round strokes.

Now clean each section of the car one by one, wipe off the cleaner with the microfiber cloth/towel and also any leftover residue, after which you should find that the paint finish is now smooth and free from any blemishes and stains.

Step 3 – Car Polishing

Applying polish on your car will provide it with required lustre. And can bring back the natural oils your paint initially had, which will make your car’s surface more sparkling. The experts recommend polish of a car once in a year. After proper polishing light paint shades like silver, white or tan may not see much of a change, however, dark shades such as black, maroon and royal/navy blue will replicate shine just as a mirror.

Apply the car polish in circular motions by hand, using a microfiber-covered or foam applicator pad, take one section of a car at a time. After the surface becomes misty, remove the polish with the microfiber cloth. Don’t let the polish go dry on the surface completely. If you try to wipe dry polish there are all chances that the finish will indeed result in scratches.

Step 4 – Car Waxing

Car wax acts as a reliable protector to your car paint and as per the experts, car waxing should be performed once in every 2-3 months. The latest synthetic polymer-based waxes are good enough to obtain long-term protection and are easy to use in the sun compared to the age-old carnauba-based waxes. On an average, these modern-day liquids or paste waxes last for about 3-4 months if the car is not thrown to suffer under harsh climatic conditions.

The methodology while applying the wax on the car will be similar to what we have seen above i.e. small circular strokes by hand, with help of microfiber cloth or foam applicator pad and taking one section of the car each time. Other steps are also same, like removing the wax with a microfiber towel and then softly cleaning the additional residue. Besides liquid and paste waxes, spray waxes are also available in the market, but in general, compared to the former ones, they do not last long.

A spotless and pristine exterior appearance of a vehicle not only stuns onlookers but also thrusts-in an amazing feel of confidence while driving. As a result, it should always be kept in check.
