Bike maintenance tips

Like everything else your beloved bike also needs maintenance on regular basis. It is so often noticed that we don’t pay close attention to each and every aspect of bike maintenance. So, we compiled a list of things which you should do to keep your bike fit & fine. Here our top bike maintenance tips.

Regular Tyre Checkup

Perhaps the most overlooked thing, it is important to check tyres regularly to make sure that their condition is fit for the roads. Tyre pressure needs to be maintained as per the recommendation of the manufacturer. Do also check for the possible cuts that could cause a tyre blowout and also don’t forget to check tyres’ tread. It’s a very common habit in our country to always overlook the “tread”. Make sure the wheels are balanced and aligned. If not do go for professional balancing and alignment services.

Checking Engine Oil

It plays an important role in the smooth operation of the bike. Keep an eye on engine oil level and always maintain the correct level. Avoid any possible oil leakages. It is very important to keep changing the engine oil on a regular period of time as running the bike on dirty oil would not only increase the consumption of fuel but also drastically reduces the engine life.

Cleaning Air Filter

Because of dusty conditions on our roads, the air filter clogs up quickly. So make sure to keep the air filter clean. Never hesitate to change the air filter in time.

Clutch Adjustment

It is very often used in riding. It should be adjusted correctly and should have to be free. Don’t tighten the clutch too much as it would cause it to slip without noticing and also lead to increase in fuel consumption. Get the clutch rightly adjusted all the times.

Keeping Track of Engine

Engine is the heart of your bike. Servicing it regularly and tuning up would keep it running and also reduce fuel consumption. Special attention is needed to keep the carburettor always clean and do maintain valve clearances too. Do not neglect the spark plug. Keep your spark plug clean for a hassle free ride.

Cleaning Chain

Bike’s chain needs regular lubrication as well as cleaning and adjustment. Use the paraffin wax to wash the chain. Don’t use water to clean the chains, it could lead to rusting. Once the dirt has been removed, with the help of a brush and paraffin wipe the chain with a clean dry cloth. Make sure that the chain is properly adjusted and free.

Cleaning Body

The body has to be cleaned regularly in order to maintain the surface clean. Using microfibre cloth to clean your bike is the best option. Also, avoid exposing your bike to direct sunlight. Try to park your bike in the shade, as frequent exposure to the sunlight is not good for bike’s paint.

Maintaining Battery

Battery requires good maintenance to ensure a long and trouble-free life. Make sure to keep the battery filled with distilled water. Check for any possible leakages. If you are using the bike after a long gap of time then first charge your battery fully. Using discharged or less charged battery would shorten its life.

Maintaining Brakes

If the brakes are too tight or too loose then you got to fix it. The best thing is to have the brakes tighten as per your riding comfort. If the brake pads are making screeching sounds then it’s time to change them.

Maintaining a Constant Speed

Maintain a speed of between 40-60 kilometres/hour in order to reduce the fuel consumption as well as to keep the bike in good health. Alongside this, always try to avoid too much changing of gears as it is also detrimental to fuel efficiency.

Avoid Overloading

This is something that is not taken seriously in our part of the world. Be it carrying your friends or stuff, overloading leads to extra consumption of petrol. So to get the best fuel efficiency from your bike always avoid it.
