Falling TBR Tyre Output A Major Concern Says ATMA

How and where to store tyres

Indian Tyre Industry News - 2017

The Automotive Tyre Manufacturers’ Association (ATMA) of India has raised is serious concerns related to the continuously declining truck and bus radial tyres in the country. The country has seen a 20% decline in the production of tyres from June 2015 to December 2016. Major reasons for this decline are the increase in the dumping of imported Chinese tyres and an economic slowdown due to demonetisation. It is worth noting that TBR segment has been the major shareholder of the whole tyre industry accounting about two-third of all the investments made in the industry.

In an official communication ATMA has raised some serious concerns for the matter to the Union Commerce Ministry. The association has asked the policy makers to put efforts for the speedy recovery and increase in investments in the tyre industry. According to K.M. Mammen, Chairman, ATMA, the Indian tyre manufacturing industry is facing tough challenges both from the input as well as output sides and this needs to be addressed as soon as possible.

Moreover, the industry has hardly shown growth in size in the last one year and the indiscriminate surge in Chinese radials coupled with the slowdown in commercial vehicle sector has put an added burden on the tyre manufacturing.
