As a responsible citizen, tyre industry has been organizing many tyre care and safety awareness campaigns and recently celebrating National Road Safety Week, Automotive Tyre Manufacturers Association (ATMA), reached out to motorists in the national capital and urged them and their families to take good care of tyres for their own safety. Booklets that were specifically designed on tyre safety were also distributed containing visuals explaining easy steps to maintain tyres, myths and realities associated with tyres and tread wear indicators.

Tyres being the only contact point between you and road, they play an important role in the road safety, thereby deserving much attention. During the campaign, the motorists were also made to realize that how good tyres help in improving fuel efficiency and offer safe and enjoyable ride. On the other hand, low-quality tyres prove unsafe for riding and also turns out to be fuel galloping. These were the points emphasized by Director General of ATMA, Rajiv Budhraja.

The 29th National Road Safety Week was held during 23rd to 30th April 2018 and was inaugurated by the Minister of Road Transport and Highways with the active support of SIAM (Society of Indian Automobiles Manufacturers) and other stakeholders currently engaged in various Road Safety aspects.

As a regular activity called as tyre safety clinics, service engineers from ATMA member companies (including Apollo Tyres, Bridgestone India, Continental India, JK Tyre, CEAT Tyres, Birla Tyres, Goodyear India, Yokohama, MRF Tyres, Michelin and TVS Tyres) have conducted safety checks across Chennai, Chandigarh, Mysuru, Greater Noida and New Delhi. It was found during this activity that over 60 percent of the car owners have not maintained proper tyre pressure which hampers fuel efficiency and undermines the safety of the vehicle as well as the driver and passengers.

ATMA is one of the most active national industry bodies in the country that represents INR 55,000 crore automotive tyre industry. It represents over 90 percent of the production of the tyres in India. ATMA members include Apollo Tyres, Bridgestone India, Continental India, JK Tyre, CEAT, Birla Tyres, Goodyear India, Yokohama, MRF, Michelin and TVS Tyres. The organisation has its headquarter at New Delhi, India.
